(Sukuk.net - Khaleej Times) The General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Awqaf (GAIAA) will intervene for the first time to control Haj tour fees.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Dr Mohammed Mattar Al Ka'abi, director-general of GAIAA, said: "The decision of the body aims at controlling the high fees of Haj after the unbelievable hike which was about 200 per cent." "The (GAIAA) has entrusted a firm to study Haj tour costs," said Dr Al Ka'abi.

The study will include the cost of accommodation at all levels.

Dr Al Ka'abi added: The GAIAA would then be able to set the fees according to the level of services, which will be in the interest of both the Haj contractors and the pilgrims.

Regarding the pilgrims who have already signed contracts and registered their names with the operators, Dr Al Ka'abi said they can seek assistance from the new stipulations

He said the new schemes will be issued within few days where Haj tours will be undertaken under the new guidelines.
